Red-backed Shrike and others

At a third attempt I found the elusive (to me) Red-backed Shrike at St Cyrus National Nature Reserve. Also below some others from Montrose Basin and mine and Olive's garden. I was pleased with the Starling photo taken through the double glazing.

Peregrine, Buzzard, Black-tailed Godwit, Stonechats and more.

Some birds from Saturday with photos of some showing them in flight as an aid to identity. These were taken at various sites which I won't name due to the sensitivity around naming Peregrine sites.

Curlew Sandpipers, Barnacle Geese and a Teal

These are purely for my records and all taken at great distance to identify or confirm identity of birds I'd seen other than the Teal at the bottom. The Barnacle Geese flew past Usan and the Curlew Sandpipers were at Montrose Basin.

Red-throated Divers, Kittiwake and Dipper at Lunan Bay

The Red-throated Divers were reasonably close in, just past the break line in the small surf. I've reported the Kittiwake rings but the photo at least to me wasn't good enough for me to read confidently. The Dipper was the first I've seen since finding two in the Cairngorms last month.

Kingfisher and Roe Deer

OK it's nearly the worlds worst Kingfisher photo but taken into a ditch when the weather was misty with light drizzle it will be a reminder and spur for me to get a good one. This one came out of the camera almost totally black. It was a similar day when I took the Roe Deer but at least they were in the open in a field near Auchmithie and just a bit larger although far away.

Arbroath, Golden Plovers, Common Terns and a Little Gull

Benign weather and flat calm seas have meant everything has gone quiet just now with Terns slowly drifting away and waders arriving in small numbers at Arbroath. Also around, Ringed Plover, Turnstone, Rock Pipit, Curlew, Oystercatcher, Grey Heron and a single female Teal.

Red-necked Grebe, Osprey, Sparrowhawk and Black-tailed Godwit

Out with the old..... The Osprey will soon be gone but the Red-necked Grebe is a winter visitor and the Godwits have been back from their breeding sites for some time. I don't think the Sparrowhawk was able or interested in the Swallows and although they did move away they weren't panicked by his appearance.
