Barry Buddon - threesome in the dunes!

Barry Buddon and Buddon Ness, hot and sticky, especially for Meadow Browns! All of these taken with my old DSLR and a Tamron 150-600mm.

Long-tailed Skua, immature 2nd calendar year. A smaller Skua with long looking wings which flew along the beach much like a tern, and gave up rather easily when trying to steal from a young Sandwich Tern. Possibly the worst photo I've posted but not as bad as the other six I used to help confirm the ID

Bar-tailed Godwits, some of around 70 flying south after being flushed by walkers. First I've seen returning this season

Sanderlings

Sandwich Tern

Stock Dove

With its mate

Perhaps as many as 250 Swallows were around the new lighthouse

Not a great shot, but look closely and you'll see a "threesome" of Meadow Brown butterflies. Olive told me to take this photo and I'm sure she didn't expect this

Dark Green Fritillary

Green Veined White

Small Heath

Small Tortoiseshell

Small Copper

Six Spot Burnet Moth

Roe Deer

The one with all the Painted Ladies

All on a buddleia currently obscuring my living room window, it wasn't supposed to grow that tall! Photographed with a D500 and 300mm, and a D7200 with a 17-70mm. I may have video from my Canon SX60, later perhaps.

Common Cranes - A Grand Day Out!

A trip to the Ythan Estuary on Monday to try and see three Common Cranes which looked to be daily visitors. I arrived at the Waulkmill Hide at 0845, opened the boot, set up my scope and as I did the three cranes flew in, almost in front of where I stood! They were a fair bit out, but I hung around as the tide came, scared to move and flush them, and got these photos with my Canon SX60.

Also seen while I waited were, Little Stint (far away), Whimbrel and a Ruff amongst other commom returning waders, success! Further downstream near the tin hut I seached without success for a reported White-winged Tern, it wasn't reported again. Finally, and unexpectedly I found a Hooded Crow on the beach feeding on a gulls remains. I'll post photos later.
