Merlins - Victoria Park, Arbroath

Another visit to Inchcape Park and Victoria Park in Arbroath on Tuesday. I'd put all of the camera gear away when a juvenile Roseate Tern turned up at Inchcape, and of course it disappeared before I unpacked it again!

The star of the day, or stars were two Merlins, one chasing the other away and seemingly ignoring the walkers and dogs around at Victoria Park.

Very close video of the tame Arctic juvenile, click here

The odd, well marked Arctic juvenile, click here

Juvenile or female Merlin, dead centre of this distant photo taken with my Canon SX60. Note the completely unaware guy in the red car.

The juvenile Arctic (right), a well marked bird and the only one I saw at this stage of plumage development. Another more advanced bird, not posted, still had faint shadows of the same markings, but  from a distance they wouldn't be seen

The tame one. I thought this Arctic might be injured but I watched it fly around without difficulty and it disappeared out to sea from time to time

Another of the one above, both photos are resized full framed shots, without cropping

Adult Common Tern which I think is showing signs of pre-migration moulting, something the Arctics don't do until they get to their winter grounds
