Iceland Gull, Great Grey Shrike, Waxwings, Grey Hens and a puzzling Scaup

A New Year, albeit delayed for a few days by some poorer weather.

Some photos from the 3rd at Backwater Dam and more from Victoria Park, Boghead Farm and Keptie Pond on the 4th. The Scaup is a hybrid I was told but that's being debated.

Iceland Gull 2nd winter at Victoria Park, Arbroath on Saturday. Found and reported by Jon Cook

In flight

One of 14 Corn Buntings at Boghead Farm near Arbroath. More were seen by Gus in the same place

The long-staying Great Grey Shrike at Backwater Dam. I didn't get a good shot as it was flushed by kids shouting.....

Also at Backwater and flushed by two dogs, 5 Grey Hens lit up by the low sun

Just up the west track at North Lodge, Backwater Dam, 3 or maybe 4 Waxwings. This one is ringed and waiting details from the ringer

Mistle Thrush feeding with the Waxwings

Male Bullfinch at Lintrathen Loch on the track to the elevated hide

Female Crossbill, also on the track side

A closer view of the only female Goosander at Keptie Pond

Perhaps this Scaup hybrid at Keptie Pond is the same bird previously posted from Monikie CP. The plumage is a bit different from previous photos but it was a lot closer and older

I will try to investigate likely parentage, I thought it looked good for a true Scaup, there are similar photos om Birdguides and in various books I have.
