After the gales, Montreathmont Forest

Even though the wind had abated from the gales on Monday there was still a strong wind blowing through Angus today so a sheltered spot would be needed to take some photos. Montreathmont Hide seemed the ideal place, little wind due to the trees giving shelter, well stocked feeders and all of the birds with chicks to feed.

Although many of the birds I photographed can be seen even in my own garden the Great Spotted Woodpecker and the Jay I've never seen at home. The Jay did land just in front of the hide but it's wary nature meant it flew off to a tree as soon as I liftred the camera. No sign of the Green Woodpecker today, not even a distant call, I presume they've all mated up now and are keeping a low profile.
