I don't usually venture out at the weekend but I was dragged out of bed early in the morning because of a dancing competition, not me, or even Olive, but the coiled spring and duracell grand-daughter who Olive promised to she'd go to cheer at the event.
Once out I foolishly went up to Backwater Dam and found a single Raven calling from far away in a field. There was only so much cold I could suffer for so few birds that I retreated to Kinnordy Loch - not much there either.
In the huff, I went home for some food and went looking for Kittiwakes at Auchmithie, it was still cold, no surprise there. Victoria Park wasn't any better, just the same birds I see most days and no gulls with white wings.
Eventually I found some shelter behind the Old Brewhouse, but still nothing new there, so I had another try at photographing the Dipper pair, hopefully in some light, it was better but still not good. I was sitting on steps watching a Dipper swimming downstream towards me when it was over-taken by a Grey Wagtail, it would see me surely, it didn't. Eventaully it got so close that it was below where I was sitting, luckily it stopped it's relentless wagging for a few seconds and I got some photos. Funny how it didn't feel so cold anymore!

Grey Wagtail at Danger Point, could it be the same bird that I see along Victoria Park?
It worked it's way downstream and disappeared towards the beach
More from the Brothock Dippers, the female
The male
Another Great black-backed Gull seen before at Arbroath Harbour, yellow 121:M, yellow X-088 is also still there. The one above was preening at Danger Point, the second one favours the west breakwater at high tide
Some of a flock of well over 100 Lapwings at Kinnordy Loch, Oystercatchers also present, perhaps 40?
The only thing of note at Backwater dam on a cold windy morning, this Raven was calling from a field north of the viewpoint at the limit for the P1000 in the wind
