Some of the birds I saw and photographed at East Haven during my Webs Count. It was a very grey day and a spring tide which left a narrow strip of sand, with the birds often being flushed by walkers. There were a few short spells when some light broke through the clouds, the photos with colour will have been taken then.
Bar-tailed Godwit fleeing as some walkers got too close
Another three Bar-tailed Godwits - same story
Sanderling, only seven on the beach, and difficult to see in the grey light and washed up seaweed
All seven in this photo, and a Redshank
There were 58 Redshanks, and as birders know well, they are the first to flush and often everything else follows
Wigeon, they looked black when looking out to sea with the grey light behind them
The Cormorants were never settled, flying back and forth along the break line
Great Black-backed Gull adult with a yellow darvic ring which looks like X:068
A female Stonechat near the shoreline in front of the large houses along the beach. Too dull to capture both action and quality
Male Stonechat, a bit overexposed to get some detail
This time I got a bit closer
