A dearth of ducks on a dreich dour day

Just a few photos taken at Forfar Loch where Olive and I went for a walk looking for a Smew or Green-winged Teal, and found none, or for that matter very few ducks at all.

I also managed a look at Arbroath Harbour where 25 Purple Sandpipers were roosting on the West Breakwater along with a large number of Redshanks.

I finished at Keptie Pond which had no Teal or Wigeon, and only 2 Goosanders, perhaps everything was lying up and unseen on the island.

A Turnstone at Arbroath Harbour, one of four feeding around and in the lobster boats

A Rock Pipit feeding alongside the Turnstones

A drake Goosander at Keptie Pond, still moulting from its eclipse plumage into winter/breeding colours

Probably a Mallard/Tufted Duck hybrid, but since it turned up with other "released" ducks it might be something else...

Only four Teal seen at Forfar Loch on Monday, Wigeon numbers were very low also. I assume the mild weather is holding birds back from moving to  their wintering lochs

A Tree Sparrow, one clearly used to people was feeding on the fat ball feeder at the "bus shelter" at the northwest of Forfar Loch. I noted that all of the so-called viewpoints no longer have any views of the water due to overgrown trees and bushes
