Roach for mid afternoon Tiffin

I'm seeing lots of Grey Herons just now at Easthaven, Montrose Basin and even Keptie Pond where they fish for the introduced Roach. Our club have a trip this week at Easthaven so I've had one short visit to find out what's about and probably will have second look in the other direction this week. Some waders have returned on the north shoreline but I expect there will be more to the south, let's hope so.

I didn't get the actual strike but the result, which wasn't a good one for the Roach. This sequence was taken at Keptie Pond

The Roach has all fins erect but resistance is usually futile (The Borg come to mind)

Lining it up to swallow it head first

Down the hatch, still live and kicking

Moorhen juvenile at Keptie Pond where they seem to be doing well and they and the Coots look to be onto second broods

Not a rare visitor at the Lurgies, Montrose Basin, a Stock Dove and I've added a Woodpigeon photo from Keptie below as a comparison

Common Gulls have begun to return to the coast, these were at Easthaven

Common Gull adult and second calendar year

Black-headed Gull, first calendar year, Easthaven

I woke this sleeping Carrion Crow up and it seemed to take some time to realise I was watching it. It did fly off without any problem shortly after. Easthaven
