Having spent a fruitless morning and early afternoon looking for birds in and around Brechin I came back to Arbroath and settled for Keptie Pond thinking some new winter birds might have arrived, nah! I think it's still too warm to bring a lot of the wildfowl south. What I did see near Brechin, four Skylarks displaying together above a cereal field, most unexpected.
I wasn't going to post this but wait for a better one, Velvet Scoters, click here
Goosander drake in the shade behind the island in late afternoon. Seemed to be feeding on something small in the underwater weed, most likely snails
The second of two drakes which were feeding together
The Mallard drake who has the Pintail hybrid duck consort, in a bit of a rammy with another Mallard drake, it's under the turmoil
Black-headed Gull flying the length of the pond to where the ducks were being fed
Coot
Even after darkening this photo down I still think it looks too bright. Having said that the sun was shining very harshly directly on the Jackdaw
