Keptie Pond, Arbroath - Heron chicks, video and photos

A single species post. Grey Herons have successfully hatched three chicks at Keptie Pond, which have grown to the wobbly, aggressive and even hilarious stage. There was no doubt that the slightly larger, dominant chick was going to get the fish in the sequence below.

The fish looks to be a young Carp, a species released into the pond, maybe when they got too big for a garden pond. There's clear evidence that the Carp have bred, with Goosanders photographed eating small Carp in winter
