No time just now to waffle, I'm off to see if I can get a proper photo of the Spotted Redshank!
New Spotted Redshank videos Spotted Redshank + Dunlin photos and more video in a new post later
Sand Martin wall Little Ringed Plover Mergansers
I had a quick look at the salt pans in front of the Bank of Scotland Hide at SWT Montrose Basin and this was the only bird present, a Little Egret. It was almost at the far fence line but I waited and watched it fish its way nearer to the hide. This is the first of a sequence of photos of it catching a shrimp, some photos are left out or the post would be even bigger than this three trip monster
The last of the sequence
I've added this one as it was the only photos taken in a bit of good light
Two photos of the Spotted Redshank, taken at 125 optical zoom and 1.2 digital zoom, and not in any light. It's back actually is a greyish shade, the primaries working towards black, and its belly looks black but isn't yet
A stray Whooper Swan at the Lurgies, I'll keep an eye on it to see if it's injured, although it looks in good condition and moved away as the tide receded. It looks to have a metal ring, no hope of reading that!
Little Ringed Plover male at Murton
Little Ringed Plover female
Sand Martins are not an easy target while flying and Olive was getting impatient, so this one will do, for now
In the region of 30 birds were flocking around the wall, some were seen digging out the sand, others were trying to muscle their way in. This photo was taken from the bench, please don't go any closer and disturb the birds. (Nikon D500, 500mm lens)
I haven't got an ID for this yet, I couldn't get a photo from a different angle, evry time I moved it re-aligned like this
Good to see another Tree Bumblebee Queen, I think that's four now including one in my garden which better use the nest box I bought for it!
Whimbrel at Hatton, I just managed this poor photo and it never returned after being flushed twice by dogs
Perhaps as many as 20 Gannets were fishing out at sea, this was the only one that came within a few hundred metres
This Meadow Pipit was one of only a few birds in the field at Hatton. The sheep have gone but the grass is very cropped, and to add to my woes the dog walkers are now using the field instead of the track
Pied Wagtail (again) on the railway fence
A pair of Shelducks wanted to come on to the beach, but not while people were there, so that won't be soon
My first sighting this year of a Common Carder Bee Queen
I'm still looking in vain for an Iceland Gull at Victoria Park, Arbroath to go with the Glaucous Gull I had earlier, it's getting late and less likely. The only interest today were the two Stock Doves which have been feeding in the fields nearby
