Some of the insects that I was beginning to think I might not see this spring, probably no more than usual, but they all appeared in the same bush on the first day of sunshine for weeks. Despite the weather we'd had, it seems that most had just sat it out and the bumblebees had managed to raise their first broods, many new workers or drones were present.
I'd started taking photos with a long lens but found I could get better shots with a 70mm lens as the insects were reasonably tolerant of my close proximity. It was a slightly weird experience having my face almost in a bush where House Sparrows, a Coal Tit and two Greenfinches were chattering, and quite happy they were safe!
